Hi, I am Maddy MacKenzie, a sprint kayaker from Chelsea, Quebec. I am a member of the Senior National Team of Canada, an Elite athlete of the Quebec Provincial Team and racing for the Cascades Canoe Club in Chelsea, Quebec. Sprint Kayaking is my passion, everyday I am determined to be faster than the day before, learning from my mistakes and building on my strengths to one day become the fastest female in the world.
My confidence, drive and leadership skills have allowed me to accomplish tremendous achievements. I am continuing to seek new opportunities and overcome new challenges that I may face along the way. These achievements include: placing 5th in the 500m K4 at the 2015 U23 World Championships this past summer, becoming a five-time National Champion and Canadian Record Holder. My life revolves around devoting my time and energy to achieve the goals I have set for myself. I train 6 days a week, 3 times a day, it is a lifestyle. Strength, technique, endurance and raw speed are all elements of this impressive Olympic discipline.
Knowing that everything and anything is possible with hard work, determination and a positive mindset, I believe in dreaming and dreaming BIG. I am going after my dreams with an open heart, positive attitude and I am so excited to share this journey with all of you!
Looking forward, I have set my gaze on gold at the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo. With the help and hard work of many coaches that I have had the opportunity to work with, I am learning what it takes to become the best of the best and dedicating it all to my Olympic dream. I am young, ambitious and open to what life has in store for me. I believe that anything is possible; that human beings are limitless. The only limits are the ones we set. This keeps me inspired and motivated to reach my full potential.
Stroke by stroke, kilometre by kilometre, rep after rep, minute by minute, follow me on my journey to represent Canada at the Olympic Games.
